Here is your VIP backstage pass to the beautiful and fascinating Day of the Dead festival, a colorful celebration of ancestors as well as a huge party. Join our small group as we explore Oaxaca, Mexico’s artisanal heartland, for a 4 day adventure that gives a truly amazing perspective of the country. With lively street dances, painted skull faces, breathtaking ruins, Instagram-worthy landscapes, delicious food, and definitely a margarita or two, you'll get into the macabre spirit of "Dia de los Muertos."
This multi-day tour is all about fun, hands-on exploration, meaningful encounters with people and cultures, and leisure time —with the structure and security of traveling in a small group. Watch our travel ambassador's Insta highlight here.
Day 1 - October 30
CULTURAL WALKING TOUR
Walk through the city, where through tastes, colors, and aromas we discover the history of beautiful Oaxaca. We visit the Zócalo (main square of the city), declared patrimony of the humanity by UNESCO in 1987. We visit two of the main local markets to try some of the local flavors like quesillo (Oaxacan cheese), chapulines (grasshoppers), tejate (typical local drink), and a chocolate. We finish with two Mezcalerias to learn about this ancestral drink and taste some of the different types of mezcal.
Day 2 - October 31
DINNER WITH LOCAL FAMILY AND CEMETERY TOUR
Live the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca! It is a traditional festivity that invokes the spirits of the ancestors to invite them to “coexist” in the earthly world. Mole, bread and chocolate, are the main ingredients of Oaxacans for offerings.
Start the day visiting the different ofrendas around the city and learn the meaning of each part of this day of the dead ofrendas.
Enjoy a traditional dinner with a local family before your visit to a local cemetery where you witness an ancestral tradition.
