Here is a sample itinerary:
The snowmobile is the new type of transportation in Arctic countries – so you will be snowmobiling from Ilulissat to the settlement of Oqaatsut. The scenery of this journey is beautiful – with snowy valleys and mountains, small hunter’s huts, lakes with black ice and a large bay which freezes over icebergs. ❄️
In Oqaatsut you’ll stay in a local house that has been converted into a B&B, with private rooms for 1 or 2 people and a big living room where you’ll eat breakfast and enjoy down time. You’ll have incredible views of the frozen sea and the mountains. The meals are cooked by local families and your local guide will be your translator to talk with them in Greenlandic.
One of the night activities is walking from the settlement on the frozen sea ❄️ – yup, imagine that – to find the best spots to see the full moon or the Northern Lights. What a treat!
After that, you’ll then experience a warm evening with singing, dancing and playing as the Inuit have been doing for thousands of years.
You’ll spend a full day in the settlement, learning and doing dogsledding. No previous experience is required. We provide all the equipment and our experienced guide will teach how to drive the snowmobile and ride on the dogsled.
The dogsled is iconic and legendary in Greenland, an Inuit tradition, which goes back 2000 years. You will not find many other means of transportation, which has survived for that long without any changes. The basic principle is still the same as in the Viking age – some dogs tied to a simple construction of wood. The experience cannot be explained – you have to try it for yourself.
A local musher will take you with his dogs on an unforgettable journey through the untouched surroundings of Oqaatsut.
The last day, you’d depart from Oqaatsut, saying goodbye to the beautiful surroundings and its warm and welcoming locals. You’ll ride back with our snowmobiles to Ilulissat.
